FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE — November 17, 2025 — Washington, D.C.

The Friends of VA Medical Care and Health Research (FOVA) Executive Committee appreciates that the final FY26 MilCon-VA agreement preserves full-year funding for the VA and maintains strong support for the VA Medical and Prosthetic Research program, including a $2 million increase over FY25 and dedicated focus on prosthetic research for female Veterans and toxic exposure research.

During the shutdown, FOVA emphasized that VA research is not a discretionary activity; it is an essential component of the nation's commitment to Veterans. The continuity provided in this package ensures that ongoing studies, clinical trials, and research partnerships can proceed without further disruption to Veterans or the clinicians, scientists, and nonprofit foundations who support this work every day.

FOVA remains committed to working with Congress, the Administration, and VA leadership to protect the stability of the research enterprise and to ensure that these investments continue to advance the health, well-being, and quality of life of all who have served.

About Friends of VA Research (FOVA): Formed in 1989, FOVA is a coalition comprised of national academic, medical, and scientific societies, voluntary health and patient advocacy groups, as well as veteran-focused associations, with the primary mission of securing top-notch health care for America's veterans through robust support for VA research.
